CHS tennis team does well at Groesbeck meet

Centerville and Normangee participated in the Groesbeck Tennis Tournament last Thursday February, 25.In Boys Doubles Daniel Kendall and Garret Ward where in possession of a Bye round during the opening matches. Their second match they won 8-1 against Groesbeck which put them in the Quarter Finals. There, Kendall and Ward easily dispatched Waco High 8-0 placing them in the Semi finals against Groesbeck defeating them 8-3. In the Finals they played another formidable opponent from Groesbeck winning 8-5. From Normangee Hallinburton and Spikes lost in their first round to Franklin. Wolfe and Taylor, also from Normangee lost in the first round as well, to Groesbeck.

In Girls Doubles Kelsey Lagrone and Hannah Word won their opening match 8-2 against Chilton. In the second round they won against Robinson 8-1 placing them in the quarter Finals. There they were winning 7-5, but where forced to default because of a track meet in which they were also participating. Taylor Cummings and Chelsea Reynolds from Centerville participated in Girls Singles. Reynolds won her first match 8-0 against Robinson and lost her second match 8-2 against Richardson. Taylor Cummings won her second match after receiving a bye in the first round, 8-1. However retired for the remainder of the tournament for a track meet.

In Boys Singles, Tyler Hostetler from Normangee won 8-6 against Groesbeck in his first round, 8-2 in the second round, and 8-0 in the Quarter Finals placing him in the Semi Finals. In the Semis he lost 8-1 against the number two seed from Hudson High. Sam Gresham, from Centerville won 8-5 in the first round against Hudson but lost his second match to the number two seed player from Hudson as well. Nick Bain, from Centerville won his first match 8-1 against Gatesville, round two 8-0 against Franklin, placing him in the Quarter Finals against Groesbeck where he lost 8-4.

In Mixed Doubles, Bruen Camp and Kyla Gresham from Centerville won their first match 8-4 versus Gatesville, and lost their second match 8-7 against Groesbeck. Niles Bain and Carlee McEachern won their first round 8-0 against Frost, their second round 8-3 versus Madisonville, and lost in the Quarter Finals 8-1 against the number one seeded team from Hudson.
