Willis A. White
Funeral services for Willis A. White, age 93, of the Malvern Community in Leon County, were held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Pastor Joy Richards, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville, officiated and interment followed in the North Creek Cemetery east of Centerville. Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas is in charge of all arrangements.
Willis A. White was born on August 18, 1916 in Cane Hill, Arkansas to F.D. and Mary Alice (Daughtry) White. He and his family eventually moved to Jacksonville, Texas. Mr. White came to the Malvern Community in 1933 and continued to reside there the rest of his life. He joined the U.S. Army and served from 1938 to 1945, working as an electrician. During that time, he participated in campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. White was very proud of his military After his separation from the Army, Mr. White continued to work as an electrician for Texas Power and Light.
Following his retirement, Mr. White worked as a rancher. He absolutely loved to work with his cattle. You could find him at the Sale Barn every Tuesday. He also enjoyed trapping and hunting deer, squirrel and coons and made sure that his nephews and nieces all learned to hunt and trap. Mr. White loved children and wanted to teach them life’s important lessons. He was a social person and liked to visit with his neighbors and friends, often having breakfast and talking over coffee. During his later years, he especially enjoyed his frequent early morning coffee visits with his niece, Linda. Mr. White was a fifty year member of the Centerville Masonic Lodge #1291 and a faithful member of the Malvern Community Church. He passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010 in Crockett, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucy (McCaskill) White; daughter, Barbara “Bobbie” White; brothers, Leonard, Donald and Calvin White and sister, Marie Heath.
Survivors include sister, Dorothy June Taylor (Jim) of Jacksonville, Texas; brothersin law, Johnny Lemons of Centerville, Texas and Gerald McCaskill of College Station, Texas; sisters-in-law, Mary Ruth White of Gause, Texas, Rosalie White of Tyler, Texas, Eloise McCaskill of Centerville, Texas and Berniece McCaskill Beeson of Crockett, Texas; nephews, Gerald Daniel McCaskill (Ann) of Ft. Worth, Texas, John David McCaskill (Melissa) of Georgetown, Texas, Mark Lemons (Debbie) of Oakwood, Texas, Leonard White (Lynda) of College Station, Texas, Doug White of Gause, Texas, Louis Heath (Joyce) of Kemp, Texas, Victor White (Glenda) of Dallas, Texas; nieces, Kathleen Mc- Caskill Schwinkendorf (Jerry) of Centennial, Colorado, Linda McCaskill Robinson (Buddy) of Crockett, Texas, Betty McCaskill Nash (Don) of San Marcos, Texas, Elaine Cannon (Joe) of Troup, Texas, Margaret Staton of Orlando, Florida, Gail White Scarborough (John Buck) of Palestine, Texas and Martha Stewart of Palestine and many great; great, great and great, great, great nieces and nephews that loved him very much.
