BHS Powerlifters host three-team meet

Van’Go’photo Buffalo High School hosted Madisonville and Trinity in a three-school power lifting meet on Wednesday, February 17. Lifters participated in three events: Squat, Bench and Dead Lift. The BHS team finished second, with several lifters placing high in the competition.

Three of the Bison men took first place in their weight class. Freshman Tate Hartley won at 132 lbs with a 3-lift total of 850 lbs. Jose Dominguez took first in the 181 lbs Weight Class with a total of 1180 lbs. Senior Jared Hawthorne, competing at 198 lbs, lifted 1230 lbs to win his class and BHS' big man, Alejandro Montano, won at 275 lbs with a three-lift total of 1090lbs Total.

Sophomore Calvin Young, competing at 148 lbs, took second place with a 905# total and Jonathan Cates placed second in the 181 lbs Weight Class, lifting 1010 lbs. Josh Carrillo lifted 1015 lbs. to place third in the 220# Weight Class. DJ Young took third in the 181# Weight Class with a three-lift total of 835 lbs. Also placing were Keith Carter, 4th in the 148 lbs class with a total of 815 lbs and Blake Strack, 5th in the 148 lbs class with a total of 700lbs.

Members of the Bison Booster Club, BHS students and former members of the power-lifting team assisted Coach Clay Hodges and the Bison coaching staff in putting on the meet, which was very well organized.
