Disaster Preparedness Class offered The Centerville Neighborhood Watch Association in cooperation with the Brazos Valley Citizens Corps Program will be offering a free Disaster Preparation Class on the 27th of February. These classes will teach the skills needed to protect yourself and your family in a disaster. Free family first aid kits will be given to the fist 50 participants who complete the 3-hour class. The class will cover how to respond to specific hazards, tornados, hazardous materials spills, flooding etc. How to create your own family disaster plan, and prepare a disaster supply kit. You will learn the right way to shelter in place if ordered by local emergency management officials. The classes will also cover hazard mitigation and how your county will respond to a disaster and what you can do to help. Classes to be held on February the 27th at 1:00 p.m. at the Centerville High School Cafeteria. Citizens Corps is part of the Department of Homeland Security and managed regionally by the Brazos Valley Council of Governments and RSVP of the Brazos Valley. Citizens Corps creates opportunities for individuals to help their communities prepare for and respond to emergencies of all kinds. Citizens Corp asks you to embrace the personal responsibility to be prepared; to get training in first aid and emergency skills; and to volunteer to support local emergency responders, disaster relief, and community safety. The mission of Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds. Citizens Corps is composed of several core programs: Community Emergency Response Teams, Neighborhood Watch, and Volunteers in Police Service, Fire Corps and the Medical Reserve Corps.
