Congressman Joe Barton visits Buffalo
      Joe Barton visited Buffalo on Thursday, February 18 and treated approximately 50 supporters to dinner catered by Country Cousins. Following the dinner Barton took the floor and spoke for about 30 minutes, addressing three primary concerns; cap and trade; health care; spending and the increase in the deficit. Barton then took questions from the audience.

BISD calls trustee election for May 8th
      BISD School Board Positions 1, 2 and 3 (currently held by Dr. Russell Jonas, Jim Scott and Gene Pruitt, Jr., respectively) are expiring, and the school board has officially called for a Trustee election on Saturday, May 8, 2010, with voting to be held jointly with the City of Buffalo at the Buffalo Civic Center.

O.I.S.D. calls for board election
      The Oakwood school board approved a call for a board election to be held on May 8, 20010 for the purpose of filling three expired positions. Those positions up for nomination are Larry Lipsey, Winnie Hodges, and Kim Hardin. Lipsey has already signed up for re-election. Hodges says she is considering her position. The only one who has declared not to seek re-election is Hardin.

Hazel Creamer addresses AARP meeting
      The Buffalo AARP Club met on February 16 at the Civic Center for a pot luck luncheon and their regular monthly meeting. Linda Woodson was sworn in as the Chapter's president, Dorothy Bottoms as acting first vice president, and Sue Glass as assistant treasurer.

      Leona Baptist Church hosted free computer classes at the Centerville High School on Saturday, February 20, 2010. Beginner and intermediate classes were taught by Chris and Dorolliz Nelson. Chris is the youth pastor at Leona Baptist Church.

Grand Jury returns seventeen true bills
     Whitney T. Smith, District Attorney met with the Leon County Grand Jury members February 11, 2010 and presented eighteen cases of crimes alleged to have occurred in Leon County, for their review. An indictment (true bill) was returned on seventeen cases and one case was passed.

Gary Adams presents “Abraham Lincoln”
      The Colonel George Dashiell Chapter, DAR, honored the February Birthday of Abraham Lincoln at their February 18 meeting in Buffalo. The National Society DAR has, during the past three years, celebrated the 200th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth.

Disaster Preparedness Class offered
      The Centerville Neighborhood Watch Association in cooperation with the Brazos Valley Citizens Corps Program will be offering a free Disaster Preparation Class on the 27th of February. These classes will teach the skills needed to protect yourself and your family in a disaster. Free family first aid kits will be given to the fist 50 participants who complete the 3-hour class.

WWII vet awarded diploma
      The Buffalo ISD School Board and a large gallery in attendance delighted in a special presentation ceremony which took place on Monday evening, February 22. The occasion was the presentation of an honorary Buffalo High School diploma to Orange A. Cunningham, a veteran of WWII who missed out on his 1945 graduation because he was serving his country.

      The Lone Star Community Center in Flo came alive once again when singers and musicians came together to entertain friends, family and especially themselves. Nick Watson did his usual good job of coming up with local walk -on talent as well as spotlighted bands.
