VS ANDERSON-SHIRO
The BHS Bison kept their playoff hopes alive with a second district win on Friday in their home gym. The Bison started strong against the Anderson-Shiro Owls. Ryan Read knocked down a three-pointer in the opening seconds, and the Bison spent the first quarter well, right up to a last-second feed by Creagor Elsom for a bucket by Damian Rodriguez.
In the second period, however, the Bison saw their 23-14 lead slip away as the Owls got red hot. Midway through the period A-S tied the game at 30 with a trey. The teams traded buckets for the rest of the quarter and BHS trailed by two, 42-44, when the teams went into the locker rooms.
Canady came out smokin’ in the third with three quick buckets that served notice that the Bison were reclaiming the game. They outscored their opponents 20-7 in the quarter to regain a solid lead, 62-51, going into the final quarter, and kept up the pressure for an 84-65 victory.
Burnside-Jones had an outstanding game and led all scorers with 21, and led in rebounds and blocks. Canady and Bell each contributed 18, plus assists, steals and rebounds, and Bell had a couple of blocks. Read sank two treys for six points, Elsom and Rodriguez scored 4, Sims was four-of-four at the line, Hartley added 3, and Beard and Hayes eached added 2.
