Lady Bison earn Top Three guarantee

football softball With two wins last week, the Lady Bison guaranteed themselves the right to post season play. With one game remaining, Buffalo is tied for second with Groveton and New Waverly. Those two will face each other on Tuesday in New Waverly. If Buffalo defeats Corrigan-Camden, the Lady Bison will be tied with

the winner. Buffalo holds the tiebreaker with Groveton, but a true tie will result with a New Waverly win.
“Takin’ care of business” was the theme as Buffalo jumped out early over the Lady Indians. The Lady Bison scored fifteen first quarter points while Groveton managed only seven. Action flipflopped in the second period with the Lady Indians closing to within two by the half, 24- 22.
Action slowed to a crawl in the third as a total of nine points was scored, and Groveton trailed by only one, 28-27. The fourth quarter was a nightmare as well as a dream come true as Buffalo slipped by as many as seven down in the fourth quarter before crawling out of the slump. Four big steals by the Lady Bison converted to scoring opportunities for the Lady Bison. Buffalo poured in twenty-two points in the final eight minutes to hand Groveton their fourth loss, 50-43.

Latisha Jackson scored ten points in the fourth quarter and seventeen for the game as she paced the Lady Bison to victory. Kylan Ferguson netted twelve points. Kelsey Canady iced five of six free throw attempts along with a lay up in the final minutes and finished with nine points. Karlee Ferguson pumped in eight. Lauren Chambers added four.
Free throws were the difference in the ballgame Friday night when Anderson Shiro came to town for the last home game of the season. Both clubs drained twelve shots from the two point range. The Lady Bison dropped four long range shots to the Lady Owls’ one. Buffalo made thirty-eight appearances at the free throw line and converted twenty-two for the 58-32 final.
Kylan Ferguson came on strong in the third quarter, going three for three from beyond the arc. The freshman point guard also added a lay up and a pair of charity shots. Ferguson and Jackson paced the Lady Bison with eighteen and ten points, respectively. Canady came on strong with nine points while Karlee Ferguson and Chambers totaled six. Kaila Grissett dropped in four free throws and Reagan Read connected on a jumper. Lindsey McGill added two free throws. Meredith Shaw chipped in one point and seven rebounds. Canady, Ferguson and Jackson combined for fourteen steals.
