Earlene Alverson

Funeral services for Earlene Alverson, age 75, of Centerville, were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Rev. Ray Grissett, pastor of the New Salem Baptist Church, officiated and interment followed in the Antioch Cemetery near Lovelady, Texas. Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas was in charge of all arrangements.

Earlene Alverson was born on December 13, 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama to Elton Earl & Bessie (Kirkly) Stringfellow. She had lived in Centerville since 1988, having moved from Humble, Texas. Earlene was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church and loved going to church. She especially loved cooking food for church gatherings. Earlene retired as a custodian for the Centerville Independent School District. She liked to visit and “keepup” with her family and friends. Her family describes her as being the rock of the family. She never knew a stranger and was very goodhearted. Earlene absolutely loved her grandchildren. She touch so many lives and will be missed by each and everyone who knew her. Earlene passed away February 1, 2010 at her home. She is preceded in death by both of her parents; husband, William Harvey Alverson; grandson, Arlen Steele, Jr. and best friend since childhood, Euna Faye Turner.

Survivors include daughters, Donna Alverson of Centerville, Char-ree Alverson- Sherman & husband, Bobby of Centerville and Rhonda Alverson-Meador of Ingleside; special life friend, Jack King of Jacinto City; sister, Jeri Hobbs of LaPorte; brothers Donald Stringfellow & wife, Gean of LaPorte, David Stringfellow & wife, Linda of Humble, Jimmy Stringfellow of Baytown and Glen Stringfellow of Dallas; grandchildren, Rhonny Steele, Millard Hasbrook, Chad Hasbrook, Gerry Wayne Meador, Ariel Pearson & Steven Alverson- Sherman and great grandchildren, Trenton & Kylee Steele and Reagan Hasbrook.
