New framework set for Animal Health Traceability

4-H kicks it up at Cowtown
      What happens when bad weather hits in January? The Southwestern Livestock Exposition in Fort Worth of course! Leon County 4-H had great representation at the Fort Worth Stock Show. Leon County 4-H members competed in the Junior Breeding Beef Heifer and Steer Shows. The 4-H and FFA members this year worked very hard and prepared very well for the show.

Gardening seminar offers growing, management tips
      Interest in producing vegetables and fruits in personal gardens has continued to grow through recent years. The Master Gardeners in Leon County and Bo Bo’s Nursery will host a Basic Gardening Seminar from 10a.m. to 12noon on Friday, Feb. 26, at Bo Bo’s Nursery.

Local youth wins Calf Scramble at Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo
      FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- Reagan Read of Marquez, Texas, a Buffalo FFA member, was among the winners in the Calf Scramble event during the February 1, 2010 evening performance of the Rodeo at the 114th edition of the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show. Chute ‘n the Bull
      I was struggling to find a topic for this article when a child in an Agriculture Awareness Program at the Ft Worth Stock Show inadvertently gave me an idea. They had seen a similar program at the State Fair of Texas during the fall semester, during that program the presenters do projects with pumpkins because it is timely for Halloween and Thanksgiving.

TDA Market Recap February 1, 2010
     AUSTIN – (Feb. 1, 2010) For the week ending Jan. 30, feeder cattle price trends at Texas auctions were mixed, with sales early in the week mostly steady to $2 per hundredweight higher and later sales steady to $3 lower. Wet conditions in some areas, wintry weather on the High Plains, lower grain prices and lower stock markets all impacted the feeder cattle market.
