Leon Cougars topple Franklin

The Cougars entertained the Franklin Lions on January 29 and edged the Lions 69-64. The Cougars fell behind by a point at the end of the first quarter but rallied to lead 29- 27 at the half. The Cougars were hot in the third quarter and jumped to a commanding 54-40 lead. The Lions rallied but the Cougars maintained at least a 5 point advantage during the fourth quarter and came out on top 69-64.
Chris Vasquez had a huge game with 25 points including many with his slashing style of driving to the basket. He always gives 100% while driving to the basket, going for a rebound, or diving for a loose ball. Chad Garner had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Garner is another fierce competitor that goes all out from start to finish regardless of the score.

In earlier action the Leon JV dropped a 39-65 decision to the Lions. The Cougars fell behind by 5 going into the second quarter and trailed by 16 at the half. The deficit grew to 23 as the third quarter came to a close. The Cougars fought hard but came out on the short end of a 39-65 score. Cameron Carranza had a big game as he poured in 18 points. Drake Jones had a solid game scoring 11 points. John Scott pulled down 5 rebounds and Jacob Hulsey gathered 4 boards.
The Cougars travel to Teague on February 2nd and host Rosebud-Lott on February 5th.
