Junior High Lady Bison undefeated in district play

Van’Go’photo Both junior high Lady Bison basketball teams went undefeated in district play, wrapping up a perfect slate with big wins in Anderson- Shiro last Thursday night. The seventh grade cruised to a 49-8 victory. The eighth grade came away with a 29- 10 win.

Coach Gleghorn used three platoons in his attack on the Lady Owls. At two- to three-minute intervals, five new players took the floor for the Lady Bison. Buffalo rolled off 26 points in the first half while holding Anderson- Shiro scoreless. The Lady Owls managed two baskets in each quarter of the second half, but the Lady Bison scored another 21 for the 49-8 final.

Taryn Morman and Carmen Simpson reached double digits for the Lady Bison, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively. Emma Shaw netted 7 points, Macey Jonas 6, Kendall Lee 4, and Marissa Jones converted a 3-point play. Karina Sotelo, Kayle Gordan, Essence Dews and Jamie Phillips tossed in a basket each.

The eighth grade Anderson Shiro squad put up a stronger fight, but the Lady Bison outscored the Lady Owls in every quarter to come away with a 29-10 win. Buffalo led 12-6 at the half. The Lady Bison tightened up on defense in the second half, allowing only 4 points while scoring 17 for the 29-10 victory.

Hannah Laningham led the charge with 14 points. Katie Glick tallied 6 points while Hailey Laningham totaled 4. Mickie Chitwood sank 3 free throws. Shelby Ballard and Jessica Presutti tacked on one each.

The Lady Bison will compete in the district tournament in New Waverly on Thursday and Saturday. Both Buffalo teams will be the number one seeds from the west zone.
