Leon Cougars drop one to the Marlin Bulldogs

The Leon Cougars dropped a district contest to the Marlin Bulldogs 57-47 in Jewett on January 22nd. The Cougars started slowly and fell behind by 10 points in the first quarter and trailed by 13 at the half. The Bulldogs maintained an 11 point advantage as the third quarter ended. The Cougars rallied in the fourth quarter but dropped a 57-47 decision. The Bulldogs had a height advantage but the quicker Cougars held their own. Vince Hale and Chris Vasquez had solid games as they scored 15 points each. Chad Garner had a big night on the boards grabbing 8 rebounds,

The JV boys played Marlin in an earlier game and lost a hard-fought 28-27 game. The Cougars were down by one after the first quarter but were tied 11-11 at the close of the first half. The Cougars had a slow third quarter and trailed by five entering the fourth period. The Cougars rallied in the final quarter but came up a point short and lost 27-28.

Drake Jones had 11 points and 5 rebounds to pace the Cougars. His teammates’ contributions were: Sagar Raja 4 rebounds; Jacob Hulsey 7 points, 4 rebounds; John Scott 4 points, 5 rebounds; Cameron Carranza 5 points, 2 rebounds.

The Cougars travel to Hearne on January 26th and host Franklin on January 29th.
