Jr High Lady Bison roll in C’ville

The junior high Lady Bison followed up their tournament last week with a return trip to Centerville for district play. Both the seventh grade and eighth grade teams rolled to victories.

The seventh grade team outscored the Lady Tigers in the first three quarters to roll to a 38-19 win. Buffalo set the stage early with an 11-6 first quarter. The Lady Bison outscored the Lady Tigers nine-two in the second quarter for a 20-8 halftime advantage. Buffalo destroyed the nets for fifteen points in the third quarter, and held the Lady Tigers to six. The Lady Tigers won the fourth quarter five to three for the 38-19 final.

Carmen Simpson scored in every quarter for a career high seventeen points. Taryn Morman also reached double digits with ten. Lauren Helmcamp banked in two shots, one from beyond the arc for five points while Marissa Jones tallied four. Kendall Lee and Kayle Gordan each hit a free throw.

The eighth grade Lady Bison rolled off twelve unanswered points in the first quarter against the Lady Tigers. Continuing to press, Buffalo netted another seventeen points in the second quarter to outscore the Lady Tigers 17-7 for a 29-7 halftime lead. Substituting freely throughout the second half, the Lady Bison managed another ten points in the second half to pick up the 39-16 victory.

Hannah Laningham led all scorers with sixteen points. Mickie Chitwood scored seven points for the Lady Bison. Chelsea Brewer and Hailey Laningham each provided four points. Jessica Presutti, Taylor Rutledge, Evan Jones, and Katie Glick all added a basket.

The Lady Bison will travel to Anderson Shiro this Monday before gearing up for the district tournament February 4th and 6th in New Waverly.
