Bison top Corrigan- Camden JV in double overtime Fans at the BHS gym can attest: you should never underestimate the entertainment value of a sub-varsity basketball game. The Junior Varsity game between Buffalo and Corrigan-Camden was probably one of the most exciting games ever played there, and it took a come-from-behind effort in double overtime for the Bison to defeat the Bull- Dogs. BHS had the height advantage, but early in the game it was apparent that both teams possessed speed, ball-handlers and three-point shooters. BHS led 21-17 at halftime, and stretched their lead early in the third, but the Bulldogs proved true to their name and tenaciously fought back to take a four-point lead early in the 4th quarter. Buffalo’s defenders cranked up their game and pulled back ahead. Austin Rayborn sank two free throws in the closing seconds of regulation to put BHS up by three. C-C raced down the court, jacked up a long shot at the buzzer and sent the game into overtime, 38-38. The next three minutes were a defensive battle and BHS scored only on four charity shots. Tied at 42-42, BHS had the final possession and got the ball to the basket, but it rolled across the rim and another three minutes were added to the clock. Rayborn was the go-to man in the final OT period, adding 5 points including a final insurance free throw to put the Bison lead at four. It was a good thing, too. C-C’s final shot was good for three points, and they had to concede the victory to BHS, 49-48. Dylan Laningham and Rayborn led the scoring with 14 and 13, respectively, and Laningham was the leading rebounder, as well, with 14. Travis Cunningham added 9 points, Jordan Nix 7, and Ty Tollett sank a three-pointer. |
