BHS girls drop decisions to Trinity and New Waverly

Van’Go’photo The Lady Bison faced two of the top contenders in the district last week and fell short in both contests. Buffalo gave district leader Trinity a run for their money, but the Lady Tigers pulled out a seven point win in the fourth, 47-40. On Friday, the Lady Bison traveled New Waverly to take on the Lady Bulldogs. New Waverly avenged their earlier loss to the Lady Bison with a 46-65 win.

Tuesday’s game was close all the way with Buffalo trailing by two at the end of the first eight minutes, 8-10. Both teams managed eight points in the second quarter for the Lady Tigers to maintain the two point lead 18-16 at the break. Ten points were scored by each team in the third quarter to maintain the two point gap. The Lady Bison trailed 26-28 going into the fourth quarter. As Trinity entered a fourth quarter stall to preserve the win, the Lady Bison were forced to foul to slow the clock. The Lady Tigers connected on nine free throw attempts down the stretch to pull out a 47-40 victory.

Karlee and Kylan Ferguson were an unstoppable duo as they scored sixteen and twelve points, respectively. The younger Ferguson found the older on the screen and roll multiple times for the score. Erica Jones and Kaila Grissett each bucketed four points. Latisha Jackson and Kelsey Canady both added two points.

In the first three minutes in New Waverly’s game, the Lady Bison were whistled for seven fouls and five turnovers. The Lady Bulldogs played apparent flawless ball, scoring the first ten points, six from the charity stripe. New Waverly pulled ahead 16-7 in the opening quarter. The Lady Bulldogs added another eighteen points to their total in the second to lead 17-34 at the half. Buffalo outscored New Waverly eighteen to fourteen in the third quarter to pull within thirteen going into the final minutes of the game. The Lady Bulldogs padded their cushion in the fourth to win 65-46.

Canady led the Lady Bison with twelve points. Jackson and Kylan Ferguson each bucketed seven. Lindsey McGill and Karlee Ferguson totaled six points each. Jones tallied three. Meredith Shaw and Lauren Chambers scored a basket a piece. Grissett tacked on a free throw.

The Lady Bison will travel to Onalaska on Tuesday before hosting Centerville on Friday.
