The Lady Bison faced two of the top contenders in the district last week and fell short in both contests. Buffalo gave district leader Trinity a run for their money, but the Lady Tigers pulled out a seven point win in the fourth, 47-40. On Friday, the Lady Bison traveled New Waverly to take on the Lady Bulldogs. New Waverly avenged their earlier loss to the Lady Bison with a 46-65 win. More ... The Varsity Bison knew they had a tough row to hoe on Friday when they travelled to New Waverly to wrap up the first round of district play. The Bulldogs are the top-ranked 2-A school in the state, with a season record of 19-3 and 5-0 in district. More ... Coach Clay Hodges was very proud of the BHS powerlifting team after competing in Elkhart last week. Several Bison lifters placed in their weight division, and all lifters improved their personal marks by 30 lbs or more. More ... The Grissett family celebrates as BHS senior Kaila G signs to play volleyball with Hill College in the fall. Seated with Kaila is Hill College Head Coach Alaena Chilson. More ... Fans at the BHS gym can attest: you should never underestimate the entertainment value of a sub-varsity basketball game. The Junior Varsity game between Buffalo and Corrigan-Camden was probably one of the most exciting games ever played there, and it took a come-from-behind effort in double overtime for the Bison to defeat the Bull- Dogs. More ... The junior varsity Lady Bison picked up two wins last week. Buffalo held Trinity to single digits in every quarter on their way to a 45-12 victory. The Lady Bison scored a second win over New Waverly 41-21. More ... In the Junior Varsity contest on Friday evening, BHS and NWHS proved to be very evenly matched. The difference, ultimately, came down to free throw opportunities. New Waverly hit 17 of 37 charity shots and Buffalo capitalized on 8 of 12 opportunities. The Bulldogs won in overtime, 45-40. More ... The junior high Lady Bison followed up their tournament last week with a return trip to Centerville for district play. Both the seventh grade and eighth grade teams rolled to victories. The Lady Cougars defeated Rosebud-Lott 38-28 on January 19th and came back with a victory over the undefeated district leader Marlin Lady Bulldogs 59-58 in a classic thriller in Jewett on January 22th. More ... The Leon Cougars dropped a district contest to the Marlin Bulldogs 57-47 in Jewett on January 22nd. The Cougars started slowly and fell behind by 10 points in the first quarter and trailed by 13 at the half. The Bulldogs maintained an 11 point advantage as the third quarter ended. The Cougars rallied in the fourth quarter but dropped a 57-47 decision. More ... On the heels of the devastating loss of 36-66 against Kennard on Tuesday, the Oakwood Panthers had high hopes for Friday's game against Douglas. They started out with a lead of 16-8 in the first quarter. The Panthers seemed to be just skating through this game. That was not the case. The Indians fought back gaining 15 points to Oakwood's 7 in the second quarter. More ... The OHS Lady Panthers hosted the Douglas Lady Indians Friday night but it was not a pleasant social visit. These ladies were clearly out for blood...on both sides of the court. In the end, the Lady Panthers came out on top. More ... The Tigers came up short against the Groveton Indians 39-47 on January 19th but routed Corrigan Camden 78- 30 on January 22nd. More ... The library at Centerville High School was filled with energy and smiles on Tuesday, January 19 as three high school senior athletes signed to accept scholarships offered by Navarro College.
