Four injured in I-45 crash

by Vanessa Goodwyn

The newly installed cable barrier which divides the north and southbound lanes of I-45 may have kept a two- vehicle accident on Wednesday from involving even more travellers.

According to a report by DPS Trooper Freeman, a grey 2001 Crown Victoria was northbound at approximately MM 173 when it hit the cable barrier on the left. The driver, John Kelly (22) overcorrected to the right, turning in to a second vehicle, a white International straight truck, driven by Stas Shtoyko (43). The collision caused both vehicles to roll several times and they ended up on the embankment on the east side of the highway. Shtoyko was lifeflighted to Tyler and his passenger, Keith Meredith, was life-flighted to Bryan. Kelly and his passenger Jay Abby (22) were both transported to Madisonville St. Joseph's Hospital.
