      Do you have formal gowns or dressy dresses and suits in your closet taking up valuable space? If so, then Leon County 4-H Clothing and Textiles project members have a deal for you! Leon County 4-H will again hold its 4-H Fashion Lock-In with a Recycle and Reuse theme. One of the activities will be to take discarded formals, dresses and suits and remake them into something new.

Cold weather could spell death knell for boll weevil

      COLLEGE STATION - - The recent cold weather could yield the best chance in a decade to eradicate the boll weevil in South Texas . “It’s really the best opportunity to bring about the death knell for the weevil,” said Dr. Noel Troxclair, AgriLife Extension entomologist. “That’s the way I envision it.”

TDA Market Recap January 19, 2010
     AUSTIN – (Jan. 19, 2010) For the week ending Jan. 16, feeder cattle prices at Texas auctions were $2 to $10 higher per hundredweight for offerings under 600 pounds and steady to $3 higher for heavier weights. Fed cattle prices were near unchanged again last week. Cotton markets ended the week lower amid lingering concerns about export demand.

Leon County Cooks: Leon Project Graduation
     Greeting fans as they came into the Billy Evan Gymnasium at Leon High School on Friday night, January 22 was a group of enthusiastic folks who had cooked baked potatoes with all the fixins’ for those who attended the Leon Basketball games. Heading up the group was Project Graduation president Tammye Koenig who was busy getting things ready for the crowd.

TDA receives more than $770,000 to enhance biosecurity
      AUSTIN— Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples today announced the Texas Department of Agriculture has been awarded $772,301 in funding from USDA to monitor entry of plant pests at strategic checkpoints and conduct reviews of Texas’ plant pest detection and response activities.
