Man calls from Bus Depot in Buffalo, just got off bus, said three characters on same making him very nervous as they kept looking at their watches while traveling from Houston to Dallas plus checking their cell phones incessantly. When the bus pulled in at Buffalo for more passengers he got off. When the bus left, he stayed behind in Buffalo even though Dallas was his destination…… Suicide Bombers with explosives strapped to their bodies? Al Qaeda singling out a bus line?.....Must not have been. Nothing on the news reporting such….And the caller, we must assume he caught a later bus….And you know what? Had occasion today to speak to Phil Pillans on the phone. Brought back many memories due to our attending junior college together many years ago. The college in question has grown through the years and undergone one name change, plus additional campuses in other Counties. We now refer to it as Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) of Athens….In our day as students we knew it formally as Henderson County Junior College or, as we students referred to it, as HCJC, which of course we pronounced as one word, “Hick-Jick”. Even though College President Orville Pirtle did his best to give us a good name academically, complete with social graces, most of us I fear still have that element of hicks still lingering in each of us. And those of us still in the area I note even today…..We don’t refer to ourselves as TVCC’ers…. No, every one of us proudly say we’re “Hick-Jickers!” And when we do, for those within hearing and unacquainted with HCJC, they always smile and do a doubletake!
