Seventh Grade Lady Bison win the Centerville Tournament Championship After a blowout first round game, the seventh grade Lady Bison had their hands full. Buffalo defeated Anderson-Shiro 45-7 on Thursday to advance to the semi-finals. The Lady Bison outlasted Leon to win 21-18 then scored a last second basket to win over Teague 25-24 in the championship. Buffalo scored twentynine unanswered points in the first half of the Thursday game with Anderson-Shiro. The Lady Bison slowed the tempo in the third, but added another six points while allowing the Lady Owls a single field goal. Buffalo added another ten in the fourth for the 45-7 final. Taryn Morman and Car- men Simpson led the Lady Bison with 11 and 10 points. Emma Shaw and Marissa Jones netted seven and six points, respectively. Kendall Lee squeezed out five. Macey Jonas bucketed four points. Kayle Gordan added two. The Lady Bison met Leon in the semi-finals Saturday morning. The Lady Cougars used their size to an advantage early to take an 8-4 lead after the first six minutes. Buffalo closed to 10-8 at the half. The score was knotted after three quarters at fourteen and BJHS managed seven points in the last period to capture the 21-18 win. Lauren Helmcamp led the Lady Bison with six points. Simpson and Jonas had four points each. Morman totaled three points while Lee and Shaw each added two. Junior high basketball is not for the faint at heart. After the close contest with Leon, Buffalo matched up with Teague for the championship. The score was tied at six after the first quarter, ten at the half, twenty and twenty-two. The Lady Bison’s only lead came with less than a second remaining when they relayed the ball up the court for a layup and the 25-24 win. Teague managed an extra basket in the third quarter to lead 15-13 going into the final period. The fourth quarter was a nail biter with players on each side fouling out. With twelve seconds remaining, the Lady Lions had the ball on the sideline and a one point lead. Teague worked down the court before attempting a long pass. Morman picked off the overthrown pass and shuttled the ball to Simpson. Simpson dribbled across center court before finding Shaw who flicked the ball to Jones under the basket for the winning shot. Jones led the team with seven points, all coming in the final period. Simpson finished with six. Shaw compiled five points, and Morman finished with four. Jonas drained a jumper. Lee tacked on a free throw. The Lady Bison will return to Centerville on Thursday for district play. |
