Centerville Tigers sweep two in district

Michael Gwoosdz (3) is being pursued by two Trinity players. Michael Gwoosdz (3) is being pursued by two Trinity players. The Centerville Tigers defeated Trinity 76-41 on January 12th and squeaked by Onalaska 42-40 on January 15th to remain in second place in district behind New Waverly.

The Tigers hosted Trinity and with a smothering defense had an easy win. The Tigers led by 4 at the beginning of the second quarter but got their offense in high gear and led 33-16 at the half. The Tigers had a 54-25 lead as the 4th quarter began and coasted to a 76-41 victory.

The Tigers traveled to Onalaska and met a determined and talented team and hung on to win 42-40. Michael Gwoosdz had 15 points, 4 assists, and 7 steals to lead the Tigers. Jonathan Cloud had a strong game as he tallied 12 points and gathered 10 rebounds.

Stats for the Tigers against Onalaska: Garrett Chase 2 points, 2 steals; Michael Gwoosdz 15 points, 4 assists, 7 steals; Jeremy Hammock 2 points, 5 rebounds; Jamal High 1 point, 3 rebounds; Ryan Payne 6 points; Clay Hardee 4 points, 1 rebound; Jonathan Cloud 12 points, 10 rebounds.

Their only loss in district was to the top ranked team in the state, New Waverly. The rematch against New Waverly is on January 26th and should be an exciting game.
