Beveraly “Elaine” Whitt Starnes
Our loving Wife, Mother, Nana, Daughter, Sister, & Friend, Elaine Starnes, 62, of Centerville, TX took the stairs to heaven on Saturday, January 16, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Larry, her daughters Deanna Powell & husband John of Stephenville, TX, Donna Bodine & husband James “Bo” of Madisonville, TX, Denae Dorris & husband, Dustin of Santo, TX. She was loved a “bushel and a peck” by all of her grandchildren Chris Starnes, James D. Bodine, Corbin Powell, and Hadley Dorris, her father, William “Bill” Whitt of Stephenville, TX, two brothers, William “Curtis” Whitt of Montana, and Danny Joe Whitt of Lingleville, TX, several sisters & brothers in law as well as a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, special friends, “adopted” daughters & extended family members. She was born on September 2, 1947 to Bill & Dorothy “Griffin” Whitt in Water Gap, Kentucky. Elaine grew up mostly in Stephenville, TX, graduated from Stephenville High School and married Larry Starnes of Morgan Mill, TX. They moved to Lamesa with Larry’s job where their first daughter, DeAnna was born. A couple of years later they transferred to Dimmitt, TX where Donna joined the family, and then to Centerville where Denae completed their family unit. During her 35 years of residing in Centerville she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Centerville. She was an avid volunteer in her church as well as her community. She willingly and unselfishly gave of her time and talents to help with church, youth sports, including many basketball games, sewing countless uniforms for her children as well as her other adopted “daughters” She was a 4-H volunteer leader, organizer, helper, and judge for over 25 years. She always enjoyed walking and sewing with her close friends as well as working at the Leon County Appraisal District for 25 years.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Centerville, Texas. Rev. Dean Ferguson officiated and interment was Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the Smith Springs Cemetery near Stephenville, Texas.
Pallbearers were Chris Starnes, Stacy Whitt, Curtis Whitt, Buddy Whitt, John Daniel Whitt, Jeff Whitt, Coby Whitt, Taylor Whitt, Brent Starnes, Randy Thornton, Rodney Thornton and Ryan Thornton.
Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas was in charge of all arrangements.
