OISD’s Superintendent sticks around
      OISD had a short but powerful session last night. It started out business as usual. The financial statements, minutes from the previous month, Update 86, calendar, etc. were all approved without incident. It wasn't until the board went into closed session that the really big news came. Superintendent Richard Scoggin's contract has been extended for another year.

Duke/McCuistion engagement announced
      Stacey Duke and Michael McCuistion announced their engagement in April and the couple has set a March 27th wedding date. The ceremony will take place at Surfside Beach, Texas. The bride is the daughter of Jerry and Cynthia Duke of Jewett. She was a 2001 graduate of Leon High School and is employed at Community National Bank in Fairfield.

Citizens State Bank announces new Vice President
      Citizens State Bank of Buffalo has announced the appointment of Brent Jones of Wortham to the position of Vice President and Loan Officer. Jones has been with Farmers State Bank of Wortham for the last sixteen years. He graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelors degree in 1982 and completed a MBA the next year.

Amber Riddle joins BISD teaching/coaching staff
      BISD has a fresh new face on the teaching staff at the high school and junior high. Amber Riddle, a December graduate of Angelo State University, stepped into her first teaching /coaching position less than a week after receiving her diplomma, filling the vacancy left by Blake Porter's mid-year resignation.

Texas receives $3 million for broadband mapping and planning
      AUSTIN — Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples today announced Texas will receive $2.5 million in grant funds from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to map the state of Texas for comprehensive broadband coverage through an initiative called Connected Texas. Another $500,000 award will fund broadband planning activities.
