Local teen receives invitation to DC
Jake Leonard
Jake Leonard 16, a junior at Leon High School has received an invitation from The National Youth Leadership Forum to attend a forum on National Security in Wash- ington DC on February 2-7.
Anyone wishing to assist Jake financially with the trip may contact Dana Leonard at 903 390 0512.
The organization chooses students from around the country who have shown an interest in government service and have displayed exemplary conduct and performance in high school and the community.
Leonard who lives in Personville with his mother, brother and sister, is planning a career as an officer in the Marine Corps. He hopes to attend The US Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland upon graduation from high school.
The trip to Washington will afford Jake the opportunity to learn about our nation’s defense and to visit historical locations such as the Pentagon, White House, Capitol Hill, national memorials, and many other pertinent government locations.
The forum also includes activities and presentations by high-ranking officials such as military generals, judges and diplomats on intelligence, diplomacy and defense.
The trip is partially funded by The National Youth Leadership Forum but travel, meals and accommodations will be at the Leonard’s expense.
