Customers’ frozen pipes cause Flo water problems

Flo Community Water customers in the Weedon Edition and other customers west of Interstate 45 experienced low water pressure or were without water altogether on Sunday morning as the local temperatures began rising above the freezing level. The Flo Water repair crew was on the job early in search of the source of the problem. There had been some problems at the Flo well site earlier on Sunday which were corrected and were ruled out as the source of this water shortage.

Bob Boettcher, President of Flo Water, was not sure of the cause of the low pressure as of Sunday morning but stated that General Manager Jim Martin was looking into all possibilities. It was suspected that the problem might be the result of customer line breaks which had thawed and are going undetected. Flo Water has a good many meter owners who do not live here as permanent residents and who may not have sufficiently winterized their property to withstand the temperatures which the area has been experiencing. If it was determined that these non-resident meters are recording unusually high volume in recent days, the meters with suspected breaks would be shut off. Flo Water's own lines were also being rechecked as well.

As of press time on Monday evening, Martin reported that seven unreported leaks had been discovered, the meters turned off and customers notified, in addition to customers who had reported leaks. The water storage tank at the Highway 75 plant was beginning to regain its normal water level.

All Flo Water customers are encouraged to check their meters. With all faucets closed, nothing should be moving on the meter. It is also advised that Flo customers check on neighboring properties of folks who are out of town or homebound, or notify Flo Water so they can check. Call FCWS (903-322- 4134) to report any leaks or suspected leaks.
