OHS Boys Basketball Action

At Latexo:
The Oakwood boys have been busy over the holidays! They started out with a win against Latexo, 60-53. The score was close in the first quarter with 15-17 going to Latexo. The Panthers pounced back in the second quarter with 25-14. After the half, the Panthers continued their attack with 15-3. Latexo tried to rally back in the fourth quarter with 5-19. It just wasn't enough to keep the Panthers from taking home the win. Bryson Randle picked up 13 points and a couple of rebounds during this game. Travis Eldridge picked up 6 points and a rebound. James Edwards got a basket and 5 rebounds. Kealyne Durham put up 24 points and 5 rebounds. J.P. Hicks got 14 points and 7 rebounds. Cardarell Stubblefield got a basket. He and Damien Purvis
each got 4 rebounds as well. Teneha Tournament:
Game One
of the Teneha tournament was against Lone Oak. In the first quarter, Oakwood only got in 2 points to Lone Oak's 7. The second quarter didn't see much improvement with 4-12. After the half, the Panthers only put up 2 points to Lone Oak's 16. In the last quarter, Oakwood tried to bring it back but fell short with 11-14. The final score was 19-49. Randle picked up 3 rebounds while Purvis picked up a couple of points and a rebound. Edwards got a rebound and Caldwell got 2. Durham put up 13 points and 8 rebounds. Stubblefield got 2 points and a rebound.
Game Two
was against Elysian Fields. The Panthers were still off their game. They picked up 8 points to Elysian Fields' 22 in the first quarter. Already behind, the 6 points they picked up in the second quarter didn't help much when EF put up 13 more. After the half, the Panthers got a short lived second wind and picked up 9 to EF's 7 points. EF got 7 more in the last quarter and Oakwood got 5. The end score was 28-49. Randle got in 4 points and a rebound. Edwards got in a pair of points and rebounds while Shaquille Caldwell got 3 points and rebound. Durham put up 15 points and got a rebound. Stubblefield also got a rebound in this game.
In the final game
of tournament, Oakwood and Mt. Enterprise were closely matched. It was a real nail biter! In the first quarter Oakwood put up 15 points to Mt. Enterprise's 9. Things were definitely looking up for the Panthers. Oakwood got 5 to the Wildcats' 10. Uh-oh! Not good. The third quarter was close with 11-9 going to Oakwood. The fourth quarter saw Oakwood picking up 9 more points and Mt. Enterprise getting 12. A tie! Overtime! Everyone was on the edge of their seats as Oakwood battled Mt. Enterprise. The Wildcats pulled it out in the end with 15 points to Oakwood's 10 for a final score of 50-55. Although not a win, this game was something the Panthers could be proud of. Randle got 10 points and 4 rebounds. Purvis got a rebound. Edwards got 2 points and 4 rebounds while Caldwell got 2 points and rebound. Durham put up 34 points and picked up 7 rebounds. Stubblefield put up a basket and got 6 rebounds.
Against Neches:
Oakwood fought hard and lost the first district game of the season. Neches pulled out the win with a final score of 56-62. Oakwood got 12 points in the first quarter. Neches got 14. Oakwood got 13 points in the second quarter. Neches got 10. Oakwood got 11 points in the third quarter. Neches got 14. It was back and forth even in the fourth quarter. Oakwood picked up 14 while Neches picked up 12. A tie and on to overtime play. The Panthers tried to hold off the but were not able to keep them from picking up 12 points. With only 6 points in OT, Neches took home the win. Randle put up 4 points and 3 rebounds. Eldridge got 3 points and picked up a rebound. Edwards got a basket and 4 rebounds. Caldwell put up 3 points and a rebound. Durham got 32 points and 7 rebounds. Hicks got 10 points and 4 rebounds. Stubblefield got a basket and picked up 3 rebounds.
The Boys will play at Leggett tonight and then again on Friday at Wells for the second game in district play.
