Lady Bison finish third in Rosebud-Lott Tournament

After a seven-day layoff, the Lady Bison returned to the hardwood last Monday at the Rosebud-Lott Holiday Tournament. Although Buffalo struggled in the beginning minutes of each contest, the Lady Bison came on strong to win two of the three outings. Their only loss was a two-pointer at the hands of the host team in the semifinals. Buffalo beat Axtell in the opening round and handed Granger a loss in the third place game.
GAME ONE
- The Lady Bison trailed 11-14 after the first eight minutes in the Axtell game. Buffalo exploded for nineteen points in the second quarter to lead 30-20 at the half. Another nineteen points in the third stanza gave the Lady Bison a 19-point cushion at 49-30 heading into the final minutes. Both teams scored twelve points down the stretch for a 61-42 Lady Bison win.

Kylan Ferguson led all scorers with fifteen points. Kelsey Canady pumped in ten points while Latisha Jackson poured in eight. Karlee Ferguson netted seven points. Kaila Grissett and Lauren Chambers each bucketed six. Reagan Read totaled four points. Lindsey McGill and Meredith Shaw each tossed in a field goal, and Erica Jones added a free throw.
GAME TWO -
Foul trouble and poor shooting plagued the Lady Bison on Tuesday when they matched up with host, Rosebud-Lott. Buffalo managed only six points in the first quarter while the Lady Cougars rang up thirteen, five of which came from the charity stripe. The Lady Bison turned the table in the second quarter, outscoring Rosebud-Lott sixteen to six to lead 22-19 at the half. Buffalo added to its lead in the third stanza with a twelve-nine outing. The Lady Cougars hit three long range shots in the fourth, their first of the game while the Lady Bison struggled to find the basket. Rosebud-Lott slipped ahead in the final seconds to take the 42-40 win.
Canady and Kylan Ferguson led the Lady Bison with eleven and nine points, respectively. Grissett netted six points, and Karlee Ferguson and Chambers contributed four. Jackson, Read and Shaw each scored two.
GAME THREE
of the tournament started out in the same fashion as the previous two. The Lady Bison struggled to get started and trailed 11-15 after the first quarter. Buffalo scored a dozen points in the second period, but Granger managed fourteen to lead 29-23 at the half. Both teams totaled a baker’s dozen in the third stanza for a 42-36 score. The Lady Bison tied up the game at 42 in the first minute of the final eight. The score was tied again at 45. Kylan Ferguson scored a lay up to give Buffalo a 47-45 advantage, and the Lady Bison never looked back. Setting a new season record for most points scored in a quarter, Buffalo ravaged the nets for twenty-seven points on the way to a 63-49 win.
Jackson, after struggling from the field on Tuesday, led all scorers with twenty points, including thirteen in the final stanza. Kylan Ferguson finished with sixteen. Shaw and Karlee Ferguson netted eight and seven points, respectively. Grissett drained the nets for six. Canady dropped in four points, and Lindsey McGill added two.
The Lady Bison resume district play on Tuesday when they head to Centerville to take on the Lady Tigers. Buffalo will host Groveton on Friday.
