Sexual Assault Resource Center to host workshop in Centerville January 9th

The Sexual Assault Resource Center will host a Safety Awareness and Self Defense Workshop this Saturday, January 9, 2010 from 10 AM – 1 PM. Anyone over the age of 12 is welcome to attend this free workshop which will be held in the old gym of Centerville High School, located at 813 South Commerce Street, Centerville. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office will present on Personal Safety and answer questions from the audience. Interactive self defense maneuvers will also be demonstrated. These maneuvers are based on pressure points rather than physical strength and are designed to allow potential victims to stun their attacker long enough to seek assistance.

Local Community and Neighborhood Watch Organizations will have information booths available throughout the workshop. Free safety whistles will be given to the first 25 people who walk in the door. In addition, free door prizes will be available to participants throughout the day.

Individuals needing assistance with transportation should contact Bonnie Robertson at 979-204-8817.
