Christie Wakefield will run for Leon County Clerk

Sherry’s Shots This week Christie Wakefield threw her hat in the ring to run for the office of Leon County Clerk. Carla McEachern, the current County Clerk will be leaving her office soon and Wake- field, an employee of the County Clerk’s office for ten years, believes she has a lot to offer.

“Most people don’t understand what the County Clerk does. We keep records on you from your birth to your death and everything in between,” explained Wakefield.

As Deputy County Clerk she has performed such duties as filing court documents in probate, civil and juvenile cases, filing birth certificates, death certificates, collecting both civil and criminal fees and court costs, issuing marriage licenses and recording various documents for offi- cial records.

Wakefield said she has always looked up to McEachern and would like to follow in her footsteps. “She is exactly what I want to be,” she said when describing McEachern.

Wakefield has lived in Centerville her entire life and graduated from Centerville High School in 1993. She is married to Michael Cannain and has one child, an elevenyear old son named Landry.

Not being one to sit around, Wakefield and her husband also work for Texas Medical Response. She is an EMT and he serves as a paramedic. They often go on emergency runs together.

Christie is the daughter of Leon County Sheriff Jerry Wakefield and his wife Mamie.
