Loyd David Richmond

Funeral services for Loyd David Richmond, age 85, of Oakwood were held Sunday, December 27, 2009 at 3 PM at Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home. Rev. Jack Smith and Wesley Henson officiated and burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Loyd Richmond was born in the Sandflat Community, Leon County and lived all of his life in Leon County. Mr. Loyd worked for Sinclair Oil Co. prior to entering the service in 1943. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. After being discharged in 1946, he drove a truck and worked for Greer Chevrolet.

Mr. Loyd became a ranch foreman for O.L. Gragg on the Challaconb Ranch, south of Oakwood, and worked there for 26 years. He drove a truck for E.W. Hable and Sons for a couple of years before being elected Road Commissioner for Pct#2 for 16 years (right before he retired.) He was a rancher and was a member of the Oakwood Memorial Baptist Church. He passed away in a Palestine nursing facility.

His greatest joy in life was his wife and family. With each child, grandchild and great grandchild to come along, his life became more complete.

Surviving family includes three daughters and sons-in-law, Gale and Boots Brice and Janice and Joe Hughes all of Oakwood and Rose and Wesley Henson of Keechi; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, David W. and Annie M. (Johnson) Richmond; wife, Jannie Louise (Hart) Richmond; two brothers, Glen Richmond and Wilburn Richmond and a sister, Melba Matthews.

The pallbearers were David Lathrop, Sam Gore, Chris Agapiou, Oscar Henson II, Charlie Harter, Bobby Hobbs, James Dawson, and Robert Dawson. The honorary pallbearers were Glenn Lively, Bruce Mulson, Jimmy Gore, Jesse Kemp, and Larry Cox.
