No Fireworks for Oakwood

By Melissa Missildine

Due to the "No fireworks inside the city limits" ordinance, citizens of Oakwood will have to look for other ways to celebrate New Year's. This ordinance was set in place for both safety reasons and for noise reduction. (Oakwood has a noise ordinance, too.) It is common for cities to ban the sale and use of fireworks inside the city limits. This greatly reduces the number of calls received about house and/or grass fires started by fireworks, minor to serious injuries to persons using fireworks, and noise complaints from those just needing a good night's sleep to go to work or school the next morning.

Chief of Police Louis Miller, along with his parttime and reserve officers, will be on patrol New Year's Eve and on the lookout for wouldbe violators of this city ordinance, as well as intoxicated drivers and speeders. Tickets issued for these infractions could cost someone a hefty fine or, for those drunk drivers... jail time.
