Contributed photo Santa Claus doesn’t always dress in a red suit and funny red hat; sometimes he comes in a hard hat and steel toed books. Just look at the Santas at Texas Westmoreland Coal Company who were exceptionally busy this year. All together the employees accumulated over 200 toys and games; among them were 4 bicycles and 3 large Tonka End Dump trucks. The weather was exceptionally beautiful on December 21 when TWCC held its annual toy presentation party.

Every year TWCC selects two local nursing home/ retirement centers and asks the residents what they would like. This year Copper Creek Plaza of Buffalo chose a 37” LCD flat panel TV and the Teague Nursing Home selected a Wii Fit Plus/Wii Sports console.

“It was a delight to meet a few of the residents from Copper Creek who came with the directors,” said Donna Jones, Lease Analyst.

The Freestone Child Protective Services received a check for $500 to purchase toys for their kids. The Farmer’s State Bank and 1st National Bank of Groesbeck work together every year to get toys for their Santa’s Toy Bank Program and TWCC contributed $500 to the Santa’s Toy Bank.

Additionally, Leon County Social Services, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Jewett Police Department’s Blue Santa Toy Drive, the Buffalo Fire Department and the Leon County Veteran’s Services Officers each received four bags of toys to distribute.

Earlier in December TWCC made a contribution to Pleasant Hills Children’s Home, a home being built in Mexia by Habitat for Humanity and Providence Hospice. TWCC prefers to donate funds and toys to local organizations to show support for the surrounding communities in which many of their employees reside.
