Centerville man killed in tragic car crash

By Sherry Matney

This year’s Holiday festivities were cut short for the Johnson family of Centerville, when Matthew Cody Johnson was killed in a one car crash on December 27, about 7.8 miles south of Centerville. Johnson died at 7:54 p.m. at the scene of the accident and was pronounced dead by Judge Reed. According to a spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety, Johnson was southbound on FM 1119 and attempted to negotiate a curve when he swerved off the road hitting a fence.

Matt was born in Conroe and was only three years old when his mother passed away. His grandmother and aunt raised him until he was 13, then he lived with Ron and Jo Conatser in Trinity until he graduated from Trinity High School.

Johnson leaves a wife Amanda and two daughters, Hannah and Bailey. Amanda is expecting a third child soon. The family moved from New Caney to Centerville where Johnson worked for Calvin Zoch Construction as a heavy equipment operator. Johnson’s half sister, Brandi Easterling also lives in Centerville.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday December 31, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Rising Sun Cowboy Church in Trinity. Pastor Ron Conatser will officiate.
