OHS Girls b-ball team knocking out the district competition Go girl power! The Oakwood Lady Panthers have done it again. The girls traveled to Douglass Friday and showed them who was boss. The game was tight but in the end OHS pulled it out in 51 - 48 battle. In the first quarter, things did not look so good for the Lady Panthers. The score was 14-23. The second quarter was a little better with 19 points for OHS and another 12 for Douglass. Oakwood fared well in the third quarter with 12 points to Douglass' 2. The Lady Panthers just could not seem to pull ahead. The final quarter was a nail biter! Knotted at 48-48 with only 8 seconds to go, Felicia Williams made an amazing three-pointer that put Oakwood in the lead for the first time in the game.. The OHS defense held off Douglass for those last 8 seconds and scored the second win in the district playoffs. Felicia Williams and Lisa Steven tied in scoring the most points for the night with 17. Felicia also picked up 5 rebounds, 3 blocks, 6 steals, and 3 assists. Stevens picked up 5 steals and 3 assists. Christina Hudson got 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals. Ashley Owens got 4 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals while Nakeithia Crenshaw got 3 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal. Jocelyn Williams got a couple of points and an assist as well. Head Girls Basketball Coach Ronnie Dunn had this to say about how the game, "I am very proud of the girls, we trailed the whole game but they played together and never gave-up, at the end their effort payed off with a win." Now the OHS Lady Panthers are 2 and 0 in district and looking to make that 3 and 0 after playing against Leggett January 5. First, the girls will play in the Troy Tournament December 28-30. |
