Straight from The Horse’s Mouth

Laura St. John

It is with very sad hearts that we tell you we have lost our beloved dog, Henry. He passed away without pain or fear in a tragic accident last Wednesday, December 16th. Our hearts are absolutely broken. But we would like to share a some happy memories with you....from him.

"Farewell", from Henry:

"Wow, what a ride! What's that they say? About not growing old and frumpy and dragging around? You should live life to the max, then go sliding into home base! Well, that's pretty much what I did."

"My life wasn't real long, but I lived it to the fullest. What fun it was getting to be the "Greeter" at 'The Horse's Mouth' in Buffalo. All everyone did was talk to me in high squeaky tones and tell me how beautiful I was. I got to feeling really full of myself. I loved it! I loved all the people, but my favorites were the babies, all sweet smelling and powdery. I liked it when the kids came in and played chase with me, they were really neat, too. I had dog visitors of course; my favorite forever and ever was my Doggy Daddy Tracker. Tracker is the best and I loved his daddy, Ron and my Aunt Gayle, too. I'll be watching over y'all."

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Henry Wadsworth Longfellow "As much as you saw me nap at THM, I had an active life at home. I had such a wonderful yard to dig in, and boy, was I good at that! In the house we had slippery floors, so playing chase was a hoot. I could totally fake out my Border Collie buddies, Jack and Jenny, by scampering under furniture where they couldn't reach me. It was hilarious."

"Jenny showed my how to dig up my Grandparent's plants. The three of us (dogs) made huge craters in their yard. A couple of weeks ago Jenny got upset because Papa locked me in this shop for safekeeping, so she dug a huge hole in front of the door thinking she could get me out. Papa said he had a bone to pick with my folks, but I thought it was only dogs that liked bones."

"Papa also had to teach me how to come down the big stairs. Three times he walked down backwards holding my shoulders, making me take one step at a time. After that I could fly down fast as greased lightnin'."

"But my favorite thing in all of this life, with out any doubt, was snuggling under the covers with my Mom and Dad. I had a very blessed life. Well, thank you all for being such great supporters, my folks appreciate it very much. I know THM will never be the same with out me, but y'all are all such good folks. Please hug your furry friends extra hard this Christmas... take care. With tons of slobbery doggy licks and lovin' snugglin'... Henry Wadsworth Longfellow."
