A high-flying Saxton Sims pulls down a rebound for the Bison -- one of many by the junior who leads his team in ‘boards. The Bison varsity and junior varsity men hosted the Cougars of Rosebud-Lott on Tuesday at the BHS gym, and the home teams came away with both victories.

VARSITY

In the Varsity game, BHS faced a team which was 7-0, and fans were treated to a well-fought battle. R-L opened with a three-pointer, and BHS’ Jordan Canady quickly answered with a couple of treys of his own, setting the tone for a game where the lead would change hands many times.

R-L pulled back ahead midway through the second half, but Aaron Bell got the lead back for the Bison with the final shot of the half, and the teams went into the locker room with BHS on top, 20-19. Buffalo’s shooting was cold in the early moments of the third period and R-L went on a run. BHS fought back and Saxton Sims knotted the game again at 30-30. R-L crept ahead again, but Canady sank free throws to tie it again at 42-42 and poured in two more three-pointers to put BHS out front. The Cougars pulled back to within two points in the final seconds, but a technical foul put Casey Helfenbein at the line and the senior sank both charity shots to nail down the lead and Buffalo went on to secure the win, 61-56.

Canady was the top scorer with 19 points, and Sims led the team in rebounds with 11 and contributed 8 points. Bell
