Gertrude Lynch Brawner

Gertrude Lynch Brawner passed away on December 6, 2009 at the age of 88 due to natural causes. She grew up in Leona, TX. Gertrude attended TWU and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Home Economics. After teaching she worked in the insurance and mortgage loan business for over 40 years. Gertrude was a long time member of First Methodist Church, Downtown and the Adelphi Class. She was also a member of the First Methodist Sewing Group, having made hundreds of stuffed bears for kids in hospitals and mission outreaches. She was active as a Methodist Hospital Volunteer and involved in the Texas Womens Alumni Association for many years.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Gurley J. Brawner. She is survived by her daughter, Anne B. Fogler and her husband Earl; grandsons, Kenneth and Ryan Fogler; sisters, Edna McDonald, Mayme Hamilton; brother, Gene Lynch; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and other loving friends.

A Memorial Service was held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 14, 2009, at Clarewood House Chapel, 7400 Clarewood Dr., Houston, Texas 77036. A private interment will be held at a later date in Leona, TX.

In lieu of flowers make contributions to First Methodist Church, Downtown 1320 Main, Houston, TX 77002 or Clarewood House Resident Assistance Fund, 7400 Clarewood Dr., Houston, TX 77036.

Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas is in charge of all local arrangements.
