Commissioners back proposed eco-alliance
      The focus of the December 14th meeting of the Leon County Commissioners Court was a presentation on the creation of an ecoalliance of three new companies interested in this area as a site for their state-of-theart agricultural plants. (SEE Eco-Alliance, page 7A).

Flo Water Directors approve equipment garage
      The Flo Water Board of Directors voted to install a 50’ X 24’ garage at the Corporation offices in Flo to shelter their backhoe and truck. The vote came at the regular meeting of Flo Water at Celebration Church on Thursday night, December 10th. A request for easing the double hook-up rule by customer Linda Sims was tabled pending a review of the regulations.

BHS student organizes coat drive
      Brooke Trahan, a senior at Buffalo High School has organized a coat drive for the The Lord's Pantry that will conclude after December 17th. Volunteers at The Lord's Pantry have stated that coats and jackets have been in greater demand this month because of the more severe weather we have been experiencing.

Self Defense Workshop planned for January 9th
      In response to the recent string of sexual assaults, the Sexual Assault Resource Center will host a Safety Awareness and Self Defense Workshop on January 9, 2010 from 10 AM – 1 PM. This event, open to anyone over the age of 12 and free of charge, will be held in the old gym of Centerville High School, located at 813 South Commerce Street, Centerville.

      At Monday's meeting of the Leon County Commissioners Court, George King -- initiator of the Mustang Creek Bio-Gas Plant which is to be built in Leon County -- introduced a new twist to the project which holds great promise for this area.

Gift presented to Houston County Court
      The members of Colonel George Dashiell Chapter, DAR, presented a gift to the Houston County Court on Tuesday December 8 in Crockett. This gift was a framed print of the classic painting “Prayer at Valley Forge” and was given by an anonymous donor whose only request was that the painting be placed in a public place, where it could be seen by many people.

      OISD's school board met early this month to allow for a training conference and the Christmas holiday break. Board attendance was down. Larry Lipsey, Winnie Hodges, and Kim Hardin could not be present.

Christmas on the Corner aka Christmas in the Gym
      Well, Oakwood's 2nd Annual Christmas on the Corner wasn't so much on the Bank corner as it was in the old gym at the school. The nasty, drizzling rain just would not pass, despite the weatherman saying otherwise. Mayor Vicki Stroud, along with Susan and Barry Olive, Susan Irons and others had a brief meeting huddled under the Oakwood State Bank awning to decide what should be done.
