Citizens in Leon County first became aware of a problem in July when a Marquez woman was attacked in her own home. When another Marquez woman was assaulted in early September the county became very alarmed. Slowly the people were notified that physical evidence linked these rapes to others outside the county. Gertrude Lynch Brawner passed away on December 6, 2009 at the age of 88 due to natural causes. She grew up in Leona, TX. Gertrude attended TWU and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Home Economics. After teaching she worked in the insurance and mortgage loan business for over 40 years.  More...

We have two donation boxes at THM. One, promoted by BHS's Student Council, is for Toys. Last week customer gave a wad money and charged us with filling the box for the kids. The other box is a Coat Drive, sponsored by BHS and The Lord's Pantry. The same customer filled it to over flowing... several times. Since then others have given. I've said it before; we live in a generous community.   More...
The Lady Bison dropped their first district game on Tuesday in Trinity, but play in the Centerville Tournament over the weekend showed promise. Buffalo dropped a close contest to a strong Cayuga team on Thursday before defeating Centerville on Friday. The Lady Bison lost the championship game to Leon on Saturday.   More...
Most consumers kill their poinsettias with neglect in about two weeks
OVERTON - - After East Texas growers take great pains to produce beautiful poinsettias, plants free of diseases and pests that could live for years, most consumers will take the plants home and kill them within a couple of weeks due to improper care, according to Texas AgriLife Extension Service experts.   More...
