Santa visits Leon County

Eleven-month-old Brandon Alpha may have to wait another year to be excited to see Santa. Van’Go’photo There are those who believe that Santa Claus is busy only on Christmas Eve when he makes his famous annual trip to visit good little boys and girls, but most of us know that he starts much ealier and this year is no exception. There were multiple sightings of the jolly man in red all over Leon County this weekend.

Jewett

The air had warmed up somewhat when Santa stopped by the Jewett Civic Center for lunch with the kids on Saturday at 11:00. The Jewett Chamber of Commerce Events Committee planned the special day and made it happen with the help of the Leon PTO, the City of Jewett and Mickey’s Pizza.

All sorts of fun activities were available at the Civic Center. Pictures with Santa were a big hit and each child received a photo and frame.

Kids of all ages met at the Lone Star Community Center on Saturday night. The evening began with a covered dish meal that would put any “big city” get-together to shame. Music and games were the order of the evening and then the jolly ole elf himself came prancing in with a bag of goodies slung over his shoulder. He had eaten so much at his two earlier visits he hardly glanced at the long tables of food just waiting for him. The little ones, and some not so little, wasted no time telling Santa just what they were expecting on Christmas Morning.

Leona

In Leona, Santa started his day with blueberry muffins and hot apple cider as he waited for the sun to warm the air enough to bring kids and parents to visit him at the Huebner Christmas Tree farm. Along with good things to eat visitors were treated to a hay ride and the fun of selecting this year’s tree.
