The Lord’s Pantry The Lord’s Pantry cannot function without the many volunteers that are so willing to help others, and without food. We have both in abundance and we are so thankful. I am convinced that Leon County is home for the most giving people and caring people anywhere! B&B Grocery in Jewett just recently completed a food drive for us just in time for Thanksgiving. The giving people of the Jewett area, along with Mr. Garcia and the employees, Mrs. Lorene Clute, Mrs. Nancy Beddingfield and so many others helped us help families to have a better Thanksgiving. You should all give yourselves a pat on the back. Brookshire Brothers in Buffalo is still in the midst of collecting food for The Lord’s Pantry. They bag all donations and hold them for us to pick up, and they continually do a great job. Coupled with giving customers, Brookshire Bros. is feeding many who would otherwise go hungry. J.D. and I went Monday to Ephesus Church to pick up food from another food drive. Ephesus Church, Friendship Church, second and third grade kids from Jewett Elementary gathered food. Blago & Virginia Kovavevich headed up the drive and what an amazing job they did, too. Duckwalls in Jewett is having a fund raiser now for The Lord’s Pantry. They will match whatever is bought there in a like-amount. So, go by, purchase a few extra items and help some of your less-fortunate neighbors. The Lord’s Pantry can use your help, and you will be blessed by the giving. The Buffalo Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a can good drive at Davis Feed, which will be held on the December 3rd when Santa comes to town. Even though the drive has passed as of now, you can still drop off your donations at The Lord’s Pantry on Wednesday and Thursdays from 9 to 1. The Honor Society at Buffalo High School also brought in a sizeable donation of various food items. How inspiring and refreshing to see young people go out of their way to help others! Years ago, as a result of surgery and treatments that I had to go through, we moved to Dallas for a couple of years. (That was a loooong two years!) There we came face to face with reality in more ways than one. The surgery was very draining on the entire family, but then we woke up to the fact that neighbors don’t know neighbors like in Leon County. I never heard or saw any evidence that people cared about what you were going through. We got back to Leon County as quickly as we could, believe me. In conclusion, a big Thank You! to all of you precious Leon County people who make it your business to know your neighbors, their needs, and go to work to help fix the problem. Christmas is almost upon us, money is in short supply for some, so please reach out to help. For more info, call me at 903- 322-4158 or Wain Glass at 903-322-1593. |
