Lady Bison battle state-ranked Westwood

Photo by Chad Nelson Buffalo's Lady Bison battled Westwood's Lady Panthers in a Monday contest before the Thanksgiving break. The Top Twenty-Five ranked Lady Panthers used an aggressive approach to stay just ahead of the Lady Bison from start to finish. Buffalo dropped a close decision, 47-52. Westwood won their previous encounter, 55-45. The junior varsity Lady Bison won 23-21.

Westwood eased ahead by a basket 16-14 at the end of the first eight minutes. The Lady Panthers built up a five point lead by the half, 28-23. The Lady Bison fell behind by three more in the third period, 35-43. The fourth quarter was the time for long range shots as Buffalo dropped three from beyond the arc to close within five, 52-47.

Kylan Ferguson led three Lady Bison in double digits with twelve points. Kelsey Canady and Kaila Grissett each netted eleven. Erica Jones came up with eight points. Lindsey McGill dropped a trey whiel Meredith Shaw tacked on two.

The junior varsity contest was close all the way, and just like the first meeting, Buffalo had to pull out a win in the final seconds of the contest. Westwood scored three points in the first quarter while Buffalo hit two free throws. Both teams scored two baskets in the second quarter for a seven six halftime score. Westwood moved ahead by four at the end of the third quarter, 17-13. The Lady Bison outscored Westwood ten-four in the final minutes to win 23-21. The Lady Panthers missed all four of their free throw attempts in the fourth quarter while Buffalo was five out of ten attempts.

Raven Lott led all scorers with thirteen points. Emily Grissett squeezed out five points while Zelneisha Lockett and Heather Egan each scored two. Ana Lopez added one.

The junior varsity Lady Bison will compete in the Centerville Tournament Thursday-Saturday. The varsity Lady Bison will play Thursday at 5:30 in Frankston.
