Freestone County Sheriff’s Report

by Sheriff Ralph Billings

Ralph Billings Ralph Billings Leon County advised of call that came in from Oakwood, daughter threatening suicide.

Man 911’s from Lake Fairfield, stuck on the lake, boat motor quit, six people on board, Park Ranger contacted.

911 Bounce comes in from Anderson County, pipeline explosion in Tucker area, 5 mile evacuation area, transferred call to Anderson County S.O. for confirmation.

Report comes in from Garland reporting missing paranoid schizophrenic in car our County on IH-45. Located by DPS Purnell and Deputy Shaw, out of gas. Driver carried to our Lobby, awaiting arrival of family members.

Lady on Cypress complains about big Lab digging in her yard. Yes Ma’am, those Labs all come with a personal guarantee for digging!

Area Officers involved in chase that came out of Navarro County, a stolen car down Hwy. 14. Deputy Harrison involved in same until boxed in on grounds of Mexia State School. Deputy Harrison dropped out of the pursuit, leaving it up to multiple local units, more familiar with the area roads. About two minutes later, the driver swerved toward a Mexia City Policeman, who fired with his service pistol. The driver, at last report, was wounded.

THDEMS enroute to Palestine with Teague Lady. Her time has come, in labor. They plan to travel to Palestine for the delivery, but if the Baby is of a different mind, may have to pull in at the Fairfield ER…..Please advise ETMC Fairfield, just in case…..DONE!

Dispatcher Retha gets double dose of a chewing out from Lady who had reported her electricity out. After sleuthing by Retha, she discovers that the Lady’s original 911 call had been received by another County. They sent their people to the same address in their County (Oh, yes, most don’t think of this, but it is very common, other Counties make use of exactly the same numbers that we have to deal with, whether house number or road number, there is much repetition county to county), found no problem with electricity being out, for them, case closed.

When the Lady called the second time, we still had no knowledge of her predicament, being out of electricity. Retha had the angry Lady make another 911 Call, on her cell phone, just like her first attempt…..It went straight to the same agency as before!….. Bottom Line- If you make ANY type of call to 911, if at all possible, DO IT ON A HARD-WIRED PHONE, not a cell phone. Also, I’d suggest that if your electricity is off, then you look the number up in the phone book and you call the electric company yourself. When we are called, we merely become a “middle-man.” Every week, I write about 911 Bounces, this event is a perfect example. If the call does not come into our County Dispatch, we have no way to know of your emergency. And if you are forced to 911 on a cell…. Make certain that you ask the operator for their location in order to make certain that your call has not bounced out of county.

Many calls over the last several days complaining of wild and reckless drivers. All in a hurry, Houstonites going to Dallas, Dallasites going to Houston. I hope every one of them made it in one piece, enjoyed their Thanksgiving and make it home with no mishaps. Holiday weekends in our location is roughly analogous to the occurrence in far northern Europe every 5-10 years when the lemmings march into the sea. None know why they do it…They just do, committing mass suicide by drowning, thinning their numbers.

Heavy duty meal enjoyed by Inmates on Thanksgiving, followed by desserts, football games and heavy snoring…..Not necessarily in that order!

Until Next Week….. RALPH BILLINGS
