The Varsity Lady Bison basketball team moved to .500 Friday night with a win over Hearne, 53-49. Earlier in the week, Buffalo dropped a hard-fought decision to Mexia, 47-60.
The first quarter made the difference in the Mexia contest. The Lady Black Cats used an aggressive press to force multiple turnovers and ran up a 20-9 advantage. The second quarter was about even as Buffalo narrowed the margin to ten, 29-19 at the half. Mexia added one more to their lead in the third with a sixteen/fifteen showing to lead 45-34 going into the last eight minutes. The Lady Bison managed 13 fourth quarter points, but Mexia added fifteen for the 60-47 final.
Kylan Ferguson led all scorers with 15 points. Meredith Shaw netted eight points while Kaila Grissett and Lauren Chambers tallied six each. Lindsey McGill and Kelsey Canady each totaled five. Erica Jones tacked on one.
Buffalo took a three point advantage in the first quarter over Hearne and stretched that lead to six at the half, 29-23. Hearne adjusted at the break and outscored the Lady Bison sixteen to eleven in the third to lead 39-38. Buffalo pulled out a 53-49 victory down the stretch.
Three Lady Bison reached double digits in the win over Hearne. Ferguson matched Hearne’s high scorer with eighteen points. McGill bucketed eleven points, and Grissett provided ten. Canady was close with nine. Jones and Chambers added three and two points, respectively.
