This is not the way Oakwood thought it would start off the basketball season... with a loss. The Frankston Indians raided the Panther home court Friday night and went home with a 60-48 win.
Things started off a little slow for OHS in the first quarter. They racked up only 7 to Frankston's 20 points. The second quarter got better with the Panthers putting up 14 points to the Indian's 2. The third quarter was a true battle and it was tight. Oakwood came up with 18 points while Frankston got 21. Already behind, OHS just could not pull it off in the fourth quarter. They were getting tired and it showed. The fourth quarter saw them pick up only 9 points to Frankston's 17.
Bryson Randle is Oakwood's point guard this year. Although young, just a freshman.), he is showing real promise. He played a level headed game, picking up 3 defensive rebounds and an assist. James Edwards picked up 3 defensive and 3 offensive rebounds, 2 assists, a great steal, and 4 points for the night. Zach Bynum picked up a couple of rebounds, one on D and one on offensive. He also picked up 4 points for the Panthers. Kealyne Durham was on fire Friday night. He had 6 offensive rebounds, 11 defensive rebounds, an awesome block, 2 fantastic steals, and he put 26 points on the score board. Durham dunked not once, not twice, but three times in this game! What a way to start off your senior season. J.P. Hicks had a great start to his senior basketball season as well. He had 2 offensive and 5 defensive rebounds, 2 steals, an assist, and 14 points. Carderrell Stubblefield had an offensive
rebound, 3 defensive rebounds, and an assist.
Head Coach Tommy Tritz had this to say about the first game of the season. "With this being our first game of the year, I am pleased with how hard our boys played. We had some mental mistakes that lead to turnovers and easy points for Frankston. Our boys kept the game close with good shooting from the field. Frankston had a deeper bench and was able to keep pressure on us late in the 4th quarter to widen the margin to double digits." He is hoping for a better outcome at the next game which will be after the Thanksgiving holidays at Kerens on Tuesday, December 1st.
