Ernest Newton “Billy” Vann
Funeral services for Ernest Newton “Billy” Vann, age 93 of Columbus, Texas, formerly of Buffalo, Texas were held on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church in Buffalo, Texas. Rev. Kevin Gilmore, pastor of the church officiated.
Billy Vann was born in Leon County, Texas, on December 27, 1915 to James Monroe and Sophie (Windham) Vann. He served his country in the US Army during WW II. He was a farmer and rancher in the Buffalo area and was a longtime member of the Stewart Memorial Methodist Church. He also served on the BISD board for a number of years. He had resided for the last three years at The Oaks Assisted Living Home in Columbus. Billy passed away Monday November 16, 2009 in the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Almaree; brothers, Jesse and Jody Vann; sisters, Letha Vann, Winnie Davis and Hattie Vestal; three nephews and one niece.
Billy is survived by his wife, Dorothy Vann of Ce- Park, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Cameron Vann of Washington, Texas; daughter and sonin law, Maxine and Lanny Farley of Weimar, Texas, grandchildren, David Farley of Columbus, Texas, Melissa Farne and Gregg Vann and wife, Kara, of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Tory and Zachary Farley of Columbus, Texas, Vivian and Garrett Vann of Houston, Texas; great-great grandson, Seth Kulhanek of Columbus, Texas, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The pallbearers were Thomas Davis, David Farley, Zachary Farley, Barton Furl, Courtney Farley, and Tory Farley.
Funeral services are under the direction of Walters Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo.
