Cub Scouts meet local heroes
      The Oakwood Cub Scouts have been studying heroes this month. They learned that real heroes don't wear tights and capes. They are our doctors, nurses, teachers, military, police, firemen, and EMS.

2010 Yearbooks and memory books on sale now
      Save money by purchasing your student's 2010 yearbook or memory book before the Christmas holidays. The cost of the high school book, if ordered by December 12th, is forty dollars. After the 12th of December all yearbooks will be priced at forty-five dollars and will go up an additional five dollars if not preordered by March 1st.

      One look at the date on this newspaper will serve as a reminder: It is less than a month until Christmas. The economy being what it is, most people have already been tightening their (financial) belts for months, and many folks people may be realizing with alarm that they have not yet made much of a dent in their shopping list.

Student Council hosts toy and clothing drive
      The Buffalo High School Student Council will be holding a Toy and Clothing Drive for local children from now until December 11, 2009. We are coordinating with all three campuses to identify families in the area who could use some extra assistance in making it through the holiday season.

Oakwood EEC hears about “Brain Training”
      The Oakwood Extension Education Club met on Nov. 12, 2009 at 10:00 am in the Methodist Church. The meeting was called to order by Sandra Botard. Several upcoming events were discussed and after the business meeting and introduction of three visitors-Joanne Clair, Charlene Houseman and Jackie Gilliam.
