OISD celebrated Thanksgiving a little early with a lunch of turkey and dressing. Some of the younger classes wore Indian headbands to represent the first Thanksgiving. Parents and grandparents enjoyed having the opportunity to celebrate with the students by having lunch with them. This is a long standing tradition that will continue grow as Oakwood continues to grow.
Although this was a happy occasion, several parents and students mentioned a sadness at missing Mrs. Helen [Vidaurri] a little more on a special occasion like this. OISD lost Mrs. Helen, "the lunch lady", to cancer this past school year. Holiday meals like this were her shining moments. She would cook for days and it showed. This year Oakwood has Nutrition Supervisor Jennifer Tritz and her assistant Melissa Barnett. They had very big shoes to fill and the clean plates at the end of the meal showed just how well they did.
