Straight from The Horse’s Mouth

Laura St. John Laura St. John The Holiday Season is upon us; a time for family, feasts and...shopping? The day this paper hits the stands there will be only 31 shopping days before Christmas. Not being a 'shopper' myself, I find it entertaining that they have names for specific spending days. This week we have Black Friday and next Monday is Cyber Monday. Apparently, Black Friday is a sport, and a contact sport at that. It requires training, endurance, skill and strategy. In the wee hours of the Friday after Thanksgiving die hard shoppers will line up at outlets and malls all over the country. I've heard of great deals as well as fist fights over Robotic Hamsters. And the poor husbands! They're often relegated to holding purses and places in line. Honestly... may the best shopper win. Cyber Monday appeals to me because I can avoid the crowds and find on-line bargains in the comfort of my own home (or free wifi coffee shop).

I'm not sure if there is a name for the Saturday in between, but perhaps we can call it Bona Fide Buffalo Jewelery Show Day. Brenda Idol, one of our local artisans, will be displaying her hand made jewelery at THM at 2:00pm. Her unique style utilizes precious and semiprecious stones as well as SS945 and gold filled sterling silver. My favorite pieces are her swarovoski crystals, turquoise, onyx and lapis lazuli. She creates uncommon adornments from amethyst, sodolite, amazonite, mother of pearl and jade. There will be garnets, rubies and topaz. Saturday will be a perfect opportunity to find carefully made, one-of-a-kind creations for the ladies. I'm looking forward to seeing her entire collection of necklaces, bracelets, earrings and ankle bracelets. Gift wrapping is available.

Remember to help keep Buffalo Bona Fide and do your shopping in town. We have Heart and Home, Buffalo Gal, Patty's Petals and Bobo's Nursery among others. There are the gun shops for the guys and you can find just about anything you need at Davis Country Store. Who knows, perhaps someday Buffalo can rival Fredericksburg as a fun and diverse shopping destination. Happy Thanksgiving y'all.
