Centerville ISD receives Gold Performance Acknowledgements The Centerville Independent School District Board of Trustees met on November 18, 2009, at 7:30 in the Centerville Junior/Senior High School Library. Danny Lacey, Charles Nash, Mike Asby, Tuffy Loftin, Joe Langley, Kathy Gresham and Craig Smith were present. Also present were Superintendent Cathy Nichols, Assistant Superintendent Carole Dickey, Elementary Principal Jason Jeitz, and Junior/Senior High Principal Bob Loomis. The board reviewed Policy Update 86. Update 86 encompassed changes in the law from the 81st Legislative Session which included election procedures, activity funds management, purchasing, integrated pest management, transportation safety, criminal history checks, employee grievances, grading, promotion and retention, graduation requirements, physical education, military dependents, student absences, student discipline, and the Public Information Act. The board approved the Update. The evaluation form for the superintendent was approved. The evaluation will be conducted in January. Jason Jeitz, Elementary Principal, and Bob Loomis, Junior-Senior High School Principal, informed the Board both Centerville Elementary, Junior-Senior High School and the district met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Both principals gave details of the results of the assessments and how they were used to determine AYP. Special Education results were discussed as an area of concern. Both principals noted the gains that had been made since the previous year. The principals also informed the board of the Gold Performance Acknowledgements received. The Gold Performance Acknowledgement system recognizes districts and campuses for high performance on indicators other than those used to determine accountability ratings. These indicators are in statute (Texas Education Code) or determined by the Commissioner of Education. The Elementary School was awarded Gold Performance Acknowledgements in Writing and Science while the Junior/ Senior High School was awarded Gold Performance Acknowledgements for the Attendance Rate, College Readiness, Comparable Improvement for English/Language Arts, Texas Success Initiative for English/Language Arts and Math. The district received Acknowledgements for College Readiness, Commended Writing, Recommended High School Program, Texas Success Initiative in English/Language Arts and Texas Success Initiative in Math. Superintendent Nichols informed the Board of the enrollment as of the snapshot date, October 30. Enrollment at the Elementary was 389; Junior-Senior High was 338, for a total of 727. Mrs. Kathy Gresham informed Board members of the plans to vaccinate staff and students for H1N1 flu. However, the vaccine will not be available until January. Parent permission forms will be required for students to receive the vaccine. The Board discussed the sale of an acre of land located three miles south of Centerville. The land was originally deeded to the district in 1889 for a school. More information will be provided at the next meeting. Transfer for two students from Oakwood ISD was denied. The minutes from the October 21, 2009 meeting were corrected and approved. October bills were approved. |
